Sales Advice from Mike Tyson | Sales Tips

Mike Tyson once said, you know, everybody has a set plan they're going to use until they step in the ring and they get punched in the face. It may be a strange reference when talking about sales but it's more applicable than you think.

We get punched in the face proverbially of course with every sale call we make, meaning a question comes in from left field that we weren’t prepared for, the prospect or the customer says something that we weren’t prepared for and being unprepared is a terrible mistake to make in sales.

It can be very easy to prepare, yet salespeople are woefully unprepared when they go into most of their calls. <- Click to Tweet

Here are six questions that are all the preparation that you need to do:

1. What do I need to accomplish in this sales call?
2. What does the customer need to accomplish?
3. What does the buyer need to accomplish in this sales call?
4. What do I need to learn in this sales call?
5. What do I need to confirm?
6. What’s my Plan A? And if I don’t get that, what’s my Plan B?

If you ask yourself those six questions before you make every sales call, you will always be prepared for the best and the worse and you’ll never be stuck dumbfounded staring at the customer without knowing what question to ask or statement to make.
