As sellers, we live in a pressure packed environment. And when the pressures on as a sales leader, the mirror is on you. Your team will respond in kind by mirroring how you respond to pressure. And so how do you respond to pressure. As a leader, either a big L, the director or sales VP or manager of the team, or a small L leader, as in the number one sales person on the team...
Do you panic? Do you get mad? Do you work Do you stay calm? Are you creative? Are you helpful?
I started watching the Next Gen Chef on Netflix. It's a fantastic show about the next generation of cooking stars that are coming through globally. And they're all meeting at the Culinary Institute of America. And the leader on the team that won the first challenge stepped up in a moment of panic, and he had a moment of clarity to help create a dish that ultimately was one of the judges’ favorites. Because one of their salespeople, one of their chefs, in other words, was failing. And he quickly changed the course of that meal, the course of that course and helped that person win.
Is that you as a leader? Do you have those moments of clarity, or do you panic? Do you tortoise and not want anybody around you? Or do you ask for help?
Think about the way you handle pressure and practice handling pressure. Because that ultimately is what's going to serve you at the end of the quarter or the end of the year, or at the end of the month when the pressure is really on.
