I've got some clients who have a few salespeople who are in a slump. Now, there's lots of reasons you can be in a slump. And many of them are caused by a lack of prospecting. So they're manufactured slumps. They're self manufactured, slumped. But sometimes a slump happens for other reasons.

So let's talk about what you can do, regardless of whether the slump was created by yourself. Because maybe you forgot to prospect or for some other reason that was outside of your control. There are things that you can be doing to get yourself out of this talk.

First of all, talk to your existing happy customers and reengage with them and make sure that you know why they purchased and what value they're getting from you. Get them to talk about how they're using your solutions in a profitable way, because that's going to help change your mindset from, oh, woe is me, I'm in a slump to hey, we add tremendous value to our customers to make sales calls with someone who isn't in a slump.

So tag along on the phone or in person with somebody who is doing exceptionally well in your business right now. Because trust me, there is somebody and you will learn from them, see what they're doing, and maybe you'll pick up some new ideas. It will also get you out on the road, talking to customers and hearing about success.

Three take your manager with you I know no one likes to do this right. You're worried that they'll catch you doing something that you shouldn't be doing, or that they'll take over the sales call, or they're going to ruin the sales call? It doesn't matter. Take them with you and give them some instructions. Tell them you want them to watch what you're doing in the field and debrief after every sales call, because that's where you're going to learn what you might be doing that’s creating that slump.

The last thing that I would highly recommend is that you get into the office every morning, or into your office at home, if you're working from home or wherever it is, and start the day by prospecting. Regardless of whether you created this slump or the slump happened to find you, the best thing you can do is to actually make calls. Don't get sucked into that mindset that you need to be motivated to make calls.

Action creates motivation. Block your time in the morning. whatever start time is for you and make calls, send emails, prospect for new business for the first hour or two of your day. Put things in the top end of your sales cycle and that slump will be gone before you know it.
