Extending Infusion CRM for an Integrated Member Site

As a customer of Infusion CRM, I've benefitted from its all its capabilities. It has helped me to automate my business and allow me to increase my base and increase my revenue!

One area that I believe has the potential to take my business to the next level is providing a member site. By providing exclusive, valuable content to my customer, I can generate continuity revenue and new opportunities for selling my products and services. Customers pay each month to access my resources over the web - they get tools to make them successful and I get a continual revenue stream.

I spent a lot of time looking for a way that could leverage my substantial financial (and sweat!) investment in Infusion in launching a member site. I'm not a developer so I know I had to find a tool to help me manage this all. That's where I started to hit my head against the wall!

All the software and service offerings I found were expensive, duplicated many of the functions I already had from Infusion and didn't connect to my Infusion data. This last one was particularly frustrating. I've invested a lot to automate my business with Infusion. The last thing I wanted to do is go back to doing things by hand - slow and pain!

For example, when I get a new Infusion customer and want to add them to a member site, the last thing I want to do is to have to go to a separate system, re-enter all the customer information and manually send the user their member site login info. What a pain!

PasswordProtector Member Site Software from Ascad Networks

After searching high and low, I finally found a piece of software that provides everything I need: password protection of a member site, member announcements, multiple secure content areas and more! All without duplicating the existing functions of Infusion. Why pay for what you don't need?! In fact, it only cost $400 (one time - not per month!).

The software is called PasswordProtector from a company called Ascad Networks. Jonathan from Ascad set it up for me - included in the price - in a day. Then my web developer customized the look and feel of the member site and it was ready to go. All in less than two weeks!

And here is the exciting part - Jonathan added functionality to allow PasswordProtector to work directly with Infusion!

When I add a contact with Infusion - the user is automatically activated in the member site. If a user leaves the program - they are automatically removed from the member site.

I've got over 400 people on the member site now - and it's working with out any hiccups!

An Overview of How the Member Site works with Infusion CRM

PasswordProtector works with Infusion by using the built in capabilities of Infusion. Its all driven by emails - like any normal campaign. To add a user to the member site, it's simply a matter of sending an email, based on an Infusion template, to a mail box you set up to receive member site functions. PasswordProtector automatically reads these emails and sets up the user on the site. Likewise, if a user ever leaves, another email can be sent that triggers the user's removal from the site.

It's that easy - and best of all - it's automatic!

How it Works - More Details on Member Site integration with Infusion CRM

  1. Set up PasswordProtector with the desired configuration, per the product documentation.
  2. Create a POP3 mailbox for an email address that will receive the member site commands from Infusion.
  3. Download and install the optional component for Infusion CRM integration. Enter the mailbox information into PasswordProtect which will access the mailbox to process member site commands.
  4. In Infusion, set up the necessary e-mail templates to be sent from your campaign or action. For example:

Add a user to the member site

Add a user to the member site after user confirms by email

Pause the user, so they no longer have access

If you'd like to see a demo of this capability, I'll set you up for a couple of days on my Member Site. Just fill out the Infusion web form below. Once you hit submit, the web form will kick off an Infusion campaign that will first automatically set you up on the member site and then after three days, automatically de-activate you. After hitting submit, you will be returned to this page so you can read more and then visit the PasswordProtect site.

Infusion Database Integration

I wanted to provide members the ability to update their Infusion contact information from the member site. So I've written three PHP pages for updating shipping, billing and credit card information. This means that a contact can go to the membersite and update their own Infusion contact record via the Infusion API. You can see this in action by trying the demo (see above). Feel free to download and use them. Please Note: I am not a professional programmer and the code is messy and virtually undocumented, but it works for me. It is provided as is...

Full Disclosure

I've been using Infusion CRM since July 2007 and PasswordProtector since December 2007. I don't have any financial stake in Ascad Networks. I just don't want other Infusion CRM users to struggle like I did to solve this problem.

After finding the PasswordProtector product and loving it, I did pay for it to be customized to work with Infusion. If you buy it from them after hearing about it from me, they've agreed to pay me a referral fee so I can recoup the costs I paid for its customization to work with Infusion.
